Susie is known in the South as “Susie the Wedding Fiddler” and is in high-demand and is a premier artist in the wedding industry. She has done celebrity weddings. Can play any indoor/outdoor venue from backyard barbeques to black tie events! Susie can play any style of music and customizes each song selection to each of her clients’ needs
Susie Shortt started playing violin at an early age under the direction of Katherine Sasaki of The Katherine Sasaki Suzuki Violin School Academy. After her completion of the Academy, she studied with Anne Foreman. During her adolescent career she performed with various groups including the Chicago Youth Symphony Orchestra and Northwest Symphony Orchestra. She received scholarships to attend master violin workshops at the Universities of Illinois, Eastern Illinois and Madison. She has taken improvizational classes with Jazz Violinist Randy Sabien. Susie is a member of the Fiddle Players Union, Suzuki Academy Association, Southwestern Bluegrass Music Association, and Southern Old Timer Fiddle Association.

Susie has been playing bluegrass and country music professionally for the past 15 years. Susie is a current member of the American Federation of Musicians and Local 256-733. She has appeared as herself on a reality series that featured the wedding industry that aired on the Food Network. Has nationally appeared in several NASCAR commercials which were filmed at Talladega Superspeedway. Susie appeared in a 15-minute small film “Legend of Hallowdega” which featured David Arquette, and several NASCAR personalities. Susie has done various studio work for numerous of Christian, Gospel, Country and Bluegrass artists. In 2012, she received an award from Gigmasters.com for Best Artist of the Year. She also received a spotlight review for featured artist for Thumbtack.com and has appeared in several national bridal magazines.

Not only is Susie a talented musician but she is a gifted teacher. She specializes in Suzuki Violin Method and Mark O’Connor Method and incorporates these techniques with her fiddle instruction. She starts teaching individuals from the ages of 5 to 70. “You are never too young or old to start learning to play the fiddle!” Please call for rates and availability.
